America's Next Top SCIENTIST Video Contest | Discovery Education & 3M

Do your students have what it takes to be America's next top young scientist? Discovery Education and 3M are looking for enthusiastic science students grades 5 - 8. This contest is definitely worth your time as the top 10 scientists will receive a trip to New York City and the grand prize winner wins a $50,000 in U.S. Savings Bonds.

DEADLINE: MAY 27, 2010

The Discovery Education 3M Young Scientists Challenge is designed to promote the exploration and importance of science literacy, communication, and innovation among America's youth. In the last ten years, over 600,000 students have participated in the contest. Winners have gone on to work with nations leading scientists, speak in front of members of Congress, and pursue academic careers in the sciences.

How to Enter the Contest

Students grades 5 - 8 can submit their 1 - 2 minute video entry online. The video must be about a specific scientific concept selected from a list of concepts provided by the judges. This summer, judges will view the videos online and choose up to 51 semi-finalists, 1 from each state and the District of Columbia.  Remember, judges are not evaluating production skills, but content. Starting this fall, 10 finalists will receive be flown to the competition finals to complete a series of scientific challenges. Finalists will be judged on their scientific problem solving and communication skills.
