As the new school year is approaching, many schools and students are making use of their new gadgets and smart phones. With so many new apps and features constantly coming out, it is important to stay up-to date with the most advanced apps so that you can make better use of your device! Fortunately, there are a ton of apps that can be used for educational purposes. Even better, there are a lot that are available for free! Here is a list of 5 great apps for your iPhone.

Open Culture – This app features a wide collection of educational and intellectual audio and visual collections. This is a great app to help those who need some guidance in time management, too. You can multitask, learning languages or listening to lectures and podcasts while you accomplish other tasks in your busy life!

myHomework – This free app is a helpful tool that helps you organize and stay on top of your homework assignments. You can color code different assignments and subjects to set reminders and organize pending assignments. Calendars allow you to view which assignments are due on that day or month. It is a simple way to stay organized and make sure your assignments are due on time.

Free Translator – For students learning foreign languages, this app may come in handy. It allows you to translate words into many different foreign languages. You can use it as an extra study guide in language classes or on your own to practice different words.

Quick Graph – For math fanatics, this high quality graphing calculator is sure to help out. This calculator has both 2D and 3D capabilities. It can display equations and inequalities, as well as coordinate systems. Sharing features allow you to send or save your results to the library.

Formulus Free - Formulas for Calculus – For many students taking math classes, the dozens of formulas can sometimes be overwhelming. This app has all the formulas commonly used in class, from algebra to geometry. It is a quick and easy way to remember and review the formulas needed for assignments and work.

With the recent release of the Apple iPad, there has also been a release of tons of FREE apps that are perfect for parents and educators. You can find an app for almost anything, but here are a few that really stand out and are great for educational purposes.

School Notes Pro

No need to waste any more paper writing notes and reminders in the classroom! This app is the first social note taking application. With it, you can write, draw, record and research all in one app! You can write in the application, changing the font color and size. You can draw anywhere in the notes, too. With web searching capabilities, you can search the Internet and use images you find right in your notes. You can import PDFs, too! With sharing features, you can let others see your notes or drawings and even send them to the printer so you can use in the classroom.

Touch Karma (Parenting)

This app is great for a parent or teacher. Instead of using standard old behavioral charts, try this! With Karma for Kids you can keep track of "naughty" and "nice" behavior with positive or negative points. You can record pre-set points for good behavior. With the virtual piggy bank, you can encourage saving habits and add or subtract the amount of money in order to reach a goal.

Free books are great, especially ones on the iPad! With this app you can browse the available 23,469 classic books and download them in the matter of minutes! With the fully featured e-reader, you can virtually flip through some great classics like The Adventures of Mark Twain right on your iPad.
